Shira Submarine

The Italian submarine Shira was an Italian submarine  which served during World War II. The Shira accomplished many missions inside enemy waters. During one of these missions, in 1942, Shira sank. The submarine was damaged by depth charges dropped on her in Haifa bay. Located 20 minutes away from the harbor by boat at a depth of 105 ft. (32 meters) the site became one of the most popular dive sites in the Med. In 1984 a joint Italian-Israeli Navy ceremony was performed in which the forward section was removed from the submarine and sent to Italy to become part of a memorial.

Due to the Shira’s depth the site is only suitable for advanced divers.

On all dives it is important to remember to protect the underwater environment. Keep buoyant, prevent lifting sand, hurting coral or fish and taking out anything from this unique habitat.
